A Vintage Day Out: Posing In Dawn O’Porter’s Amazing ‘BOB’ Dresses
Sometimes an email pops through that gives me so much excitement that I have to do a little secret squeal. On this occasion it was an invite from Dawn O’Porter’s press team with a lovely invite: “come and hang out, have a drink and play dress up as part of a #BOBTAKEOVER”. Ummmm, 100% yes please. If you weren’t already aware, Dawn launched her very own fashion empire at the end of last year: BOB by Dawn O’Porter. Dawn designs her own BLOODY AMAZING RANGE (with dresses named after her best mates and skirts with tampons on) as well as curating some epic vintage finds on her website. And these vintage gems are found all over the world.
It was the dreamiest of afternoons. We got to rifle through some amazing vintage picks (selected by Dawn) with the help of stylist Helen Boyle who was super nice and had been part of the team on Dawn’s Channel 4 show This Old Thing. Helen popped me in this dress above called The Charlie, which I absolutely adored wearing. I am a massive fan of the high-neck, it’s a flattering shape, a great length and the material is thick enough to really hold you in place (acetate/cotton). Until I put this dress on, I didn’t really realise how flimsy a lot of my (cheap) clothes are. There’s something really amazing about wearing something with a bit more substance. I’m not exaggerating when I say felt really wonderful in it. I just felt like I wanted to go to disco immediately. If I was planning to wear it again (out on the tiles) I think I’d match it with even bigger earrings: you know, Space Age Vibes.
Big shout out to the ace photographer Joseph Lynn who took these photos on the day. Obviously Joe caught me off totally off-guard here, posing with my champers and looking pensively out of the window…….
Oh this is just us in jail. For our new album cover.
Oh my god, and I did I mention that the striking pink-haired dreamboat in these pictures is FEMME? As in the most amazingly talented music artist FEMME? Check out her website here, because, wow. I have loads of FEMME’s music downloaded on my iPhone. Her songs are my go-to songs whenever I’m on a long train journey. And here I am getting snapped with her. Best day ever? Yeah, best day ever.
Massive adoration and respect for Dawn who has created such a cool fashion brand. I mean. Vintage. Dresses. Ones that you can wear and go dancing in. And eat lots of nice food in and still feel foxy. Also big thanks to Dawn’s amazing assistant Buzz who organised the afternoon and made it so awesome. And below is the incredible Laura Dockrill (her books, OMG her books) was also there. LOOK AT THIS OUTFIT. This outfit makes me so happy.
